FAQs

What are spider veins?

Spider veins are small blood vessels that appear red, blue, or purple and sometimes form a web-like pattern. They commonly develop on the face or legs. While benign, they can be cosmetically noticeable.

How did I get spider veins?

Spider veins occur when small blood vessels become damaged and their valves malfunction. Blood flow slows, causing pooling and increased pressure that leads to visible dilation.

Factors that increase risk include sun exposure, fair skin, aging, hormonal changes related to puberty, pregnancy, or menopause, and certain hormone-containing medications. Genetics may also play a role.

What are cherry angiomas?

Cherry angiomas are small, bright red, benign vascular lesions composed of clusters of blood vessels. They may be smooth or slightly raised and range in size from a pinhead to about one-quarter inch in diameter.

How did I get cherry angiomas?

The cause of cherry angiomas is not fully understood. They are common after age 30 and may have a hereditary component. They are harmless and not contagious.

How can I get rid of spider veins and cherry angiomas?

The GentleMax Pro laser includes an Nd:YAG component that targets pigmented lesions and blood vessels. The laser energy is precisely adjusted to focus only on the unwanted vessels.

The heat collapses and destroys the treated veins while leaving the surrounding skin unaffected. Treatment typically takes only a few minutes. Improvement in color may be visible shortly after treatment, with continued clearing over the following eight weeks.
